ICOM function is a free update.
Rheingold software ISTA / ISTP
5 tips on using CGDI BMW ICOM function incl. OS requirement, connection etc:
Tip 1. Its operation method is as the same as that of an ICOM device, it is supposed to replace the ICOM device to perform the required operations.
Tip 2. You’d better setup CGDI BMW software and BMW Rheingold software on the same computer ( XP not work).
Tip 3. Whenever there is a connection problem, exit the “ICOM function” and open again.
Tip 4. You can connect the ICOM function in two methods:
Method 1: Setup the CGDI software and the Rheingold software on a single computer. Plug the CGDI device to the car and the computer, launch the ICOM function, and operate in the same connection method as BMW ICOM.
Method 2: the Rheingold software and CGDI software are installed on two individual computers. When you want to use the ICOM function, please close the computer firewall running with CGDI and connect the two computers to the same LAN or WiFi, then connect the CGDI BMW device to the car.
***Method 1 is the best.
Tip 5.If you came across “Registration failed” or has abnormal connection, please exit the interface and open it again. And if it runs slow when exiting, it is normal, please wait a while.
How to register ICOM function?
Every time when ICOM function is launched, it may pop up “whether to run slpd.exe”, click on “Yes” if it pops up, if it doesn’t pop up it’s okay too.
Please look at the following images, after open the ICOM function it appears “Registered successfully·······”,that’s great you can go on. The method of ICOM function connection is basically as the same as that of ICOM device.
There are two optional connection method for the IP address bar:
Option 1: If CGDI software and EasyConnect are installed on the same computer, for example, the local IP is 127.0.0.1, then the IP input local return address 127.0. 0.1.
Option 2: If not installed on the same computer, you need to enter the IP address of the computer where the CGDI software is installed, for example the IP address of the computer installed with the CGDI software is 192.168.1.107, enter the IP address and connect.
Image 1: The first connection method
Image 2: The second connection method
Please wait a while until the following interface appear. If it is an E series model shown as below, it will only appear the connection method above the red frame. Double-click “Connection”. If it is a F series model, it will appear two connection methods shown as below. You are advised to connect the one with the VIN number. If none of two appear VIN number, please exit the ICOM function and open it again, then perform the previous steps.
Image: Reading out the BMW vehicle information successfully.
Note: If the ISTA software didn’t appear the information for a long time and even popped up error message, but the data is sent and received on the interface, it may be caused by network problems. You need to exit the ICOM function and connect to a better network (such as connecting to a mobile phone hotspot). Then reopen the ICOM function.
By following the below image to connect. ICOM/D IP address is the same as the computer IP address with CGDI BMW software installed. And the Port number is 6801 (can’t change).
For example, the local IP address is 192.168.1.107, and the ICOM/D IP is to be reset as tcp:// 192.168.1.107:6801.
The below image shows “Established connection successfully”, sometimes it won’t display.
If the connection had ERROR (shown as below), please exit the CGDI BMW ICOM function, disconnect the E_sys connection, reopen the ICOM function, and repeat the above connection.
