AutoTuner has introduced a significant update for Bosch MDG1 ECUs used in BMW vehicles from 2020 onwards. The latest DDE8 and DME8 versions, which feature new Bosch security measures, can now be processed via the BENCH method after performing a Remote Unlock using your AutoTuner Tool.

How to Verify ECU Compatibility?
Simply perform a BENCH identification. Your AutoTuner Master Tuning Tool will then clearly indicate the appropriate next steps:
- If supported in BENCH: You may proceed directly.
- If a Remote Unlock is required: Follow the process outlined below.
- If not yet supported: Please await future updates.
What you need to do:
This is a “Remote Unlock” service, which means you need to ship the ECU to us. The cost is 250 EUR + VAT, and you can place your order directly on the AutoTuner official website.
A crucial step before you ship:
You must fully open the ECU, completely separating the circuit board from the casing on both sides.
Please note:
This task carries risk and should only be performed by a skilled professional. We cannot accept closed or partially opened units for processing.
After the unlock is complete:
You’ll be able to read and write to the ECU via bench or OBD (please note that a “Full Read” is only possible on the bench).

Remote Unlock Procedure for BMW MDG1:
1.Confirm the ECU reference through vehicle identification.
2.Remove the ECU and inspect its physical condition.

5.Pack the ECU securely and ship it using the provided DHL label.
6.Once returned, reinstall the ECU. Full reading and writing capabilities will then be available via BENCH with your AutoTuner ECU Programmer.
