I’ve unlocked a few of these BMW M3 G80 Competition ECUs already, but this one won’t unlock on the bench with Flex. For this unit, I used Flex Glitch Boot Mode with a BDM adapter, and the ECU went through the unlock process successfully.
Set Up the Glitch Connection
- I made the ECU connections for Glitch Boot Mode and fitted the BDM adapter to the BDM frame.
- The ignition connection is important here. A4 is the ignition power wire, shown as the pink wire in this setup. Flex uses this to switch the ignition power during the process.
- With the connections in place, I closed the setup and connected with Flex. The tool was able to identify the processor, so the connection was good.
Read the ECU and Start Unlock
- The ECU uses a Tricore 298TP After Flex identified it, I went ahead with Unlock.
- Flex warns that interrupting the process can cause irreversible ECU damage. I confirmed the warning and left all the cables and connections untouched.
- The tool started reading the ECU data and continued with the unlock process.
Patch & Write Back
- Flex then moved to Patching and patched the file.
- It wrote the patched file back into the ECU.
- Once that finished, the ECU showed as unlocked. At this point, it can be programmed through OBD.
Unlock Result
The BMW M3 G80 Competition ECU was successfully unlocked with Flex Glitch Boot Mode. The ECU was then ready to go back on the vehicle, with the basic vehicle functions expected to work normally.
