Q1: After I unlock an MG1CS201 or MG1CS024 DME (found on B58/S58 engines), can I flash off-the-shelf tunes through the OBD port?
A: Direct OBD flashing remains unavailable. The present firmware update is designed solely for pinout-based bench operations, allowing you to unlock, read, and write data without physically altering the circuit board.
Q2: Is OBDSTAR developing a solderless hardware adapter specifically for unlocking?
A: No adapter is planned. Non-invasive bench unlocking works exclusively on BMW units at present. Engine modules from other manufacturers still demand opening the casing and removing board resistors, making a universal plug-and-play adapter unfeasible.
Q3: Can we unlock, read, or write Indian-market MD1 ECUs built with the TC375 chip?
A: This specific processor is not supported yet. Currently, processor unlocking covers only MD1 and MG1 control units running on TC298 and TC2989 microcontrollers.
Q4: Does the unlock feature work on Bosch MD1 modules manufactured after June 2020?
A: Yes. The software unlocks a majority of post-June 2020 encrypted MD1 units containing TC29X processors (such as MD1CS012 and MD1CS003 variants). Note that MD1CS016 units powered by the TC399 chip are excluded.
Q5: Can I modify sectors 1, 2, and 3 or use popular OBD tuning software like MHD or Bootmod3 (BM3)?
A: No. Sector 1 through 3 modification is restricted. Although the software applies a permanent unlock, all subsequent reading and writing must be carried out through OBDSTAR tools.
